Trumps Mexico Wall

I am in favor of some type of barriers in carefully selected areas of the border with Mexico because the United States should be able to control its borders.  Modern technology such as drones may be a better choice for other areas to save money and to maintain the natural appearance of the area.  Walls are not pretty but they are effective provided they have human guards as back up.

Trump may not be the brightest bulb in the pack but he seems to be a fair populist style politician as long as he listens to the advice of qualified technocrats and the military.   Trump did promise a wall during his campaign and that is what he is trying to get built now.  He will win this issue because he is stubborn as long as he gets some type of concession from Nancy Pelosi.  A full length actual wall across the Mexico border will never be built because it is a stupid idea however it is smart politics for Trump to advocate it because it will fire up his base.

Nancy should simply give Trump some type of minimal foggy concession because she will not win this issue no matter what happens.  Trumps political base likes the government being shut down and they will vote for him again at the next election in even greater numbers.  Unfortunately Nancy has too much pride to make any concessions quickly so critical government services may suffer during this little political game of chicken.

I favor a modified “Chuck Norris” option of using drug money captured from El Chapo to fund the wall proposed by Ted Cruz.  Even if it funds just a smaller version of the Mexico wall and adds more border patrol officers to take care of suffering migrant children better.  It seems like a win-win option for everyone.

Stained glass at St John the Baptist’s Anglican Church http://www.stjohnsashfield.org.au, Ashfield, New South Wales. Illustrates Jesus’ description of himself “I am the Good Shepherd” (from the Gospel of John, chapter 10, verse 11). This version of the image shows the detail of his face. The memorial window is also captioned: “To the Glory of God and in Loving Memory of William Wright. Died 6th November, 1932. Aged 70 Yrs.” (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I personally know people that think that its acceptable to call the language spoken in Mexico an inferior form of Spanish.  They believe that Mexicans should stay in Mexico and if they make the mistake of coming to the U.S. to work and improve their life they must learn English.  They believe that Mexicans should solve all the problems in their own country before they immigrate here.  All of this is said with an implied superior attitude.

I think that all American school children should be required to learn at least rudimentary Spanish just so that they don’t make stupid racist comments when they grow up.  A person who doesn’t speak Spanish is just too ignorant to insult it. My father grew up speaking only German when he entered Kindergarten in Theresa, WI during a time in history when Germany was having social and political problems. He was also subjected to prejudice and even physical abuse in the public school system. He learned English in spite of this prejudiced stupidity based on fear and ignorance.

I am sure that Jesus speaks Spanish among other languages.  Maybe we should try to follow his example.
